Transportation Company - Buffalo Southern - Railroad

Company History: The BSOR runs 32 miles between Buffalo and Gowanda, New York. They are the designated operator of trackage owned by Erie County, New York. Operations are as-needed with only about 10 cars moving in a typical week. This former Erie line was spun off by Conrail in 1981. New York & Lake Erie ran it for a year before Buffalo Southern took over in 1982.

The Buffalo Southern Railroad (BSOR) is a locally owned and operated Class III common carrier, shortline, railroad company, located in Western New York. The mainline of the BSOR interconnects in Buffalo, NY (Buffalo Creek Junction) and runs southward towards Jamestown, NY on a 32 mile segment of track designated as Line 1246, owned by the County of Erie. The BSOR operates the line on a long-term lease agreement with the Erie County Industrial Development Agency. Along the line, the railroad passes through prime industrial, residential, and agricultural areas of the region, offering some of the best interchange connections available, Our freight rates are very competitive, and we interchange with all Class 1 railroads servicing the BC Junction, including: Norfolk Southern (NS), CSX, Canadian Pacific (CP), and; Buffalo & Pittsburg (B&P). We also interchange with the New York & Lake Erie (NYLE) in Gowanda, NY, extending service into the Conewango Valley region of Western New York, with plans to restore full rail service between Gowanda and Jamestown, NY.
