Specific Item Information: The AEC Matador Wrecker, used extensively as a WWII workhorse, found its way into the ownership of many commercial operators in civilian life. Southdown may have used the vehicle for ‘rescuing’ broken down buses and coaches from their extensive fleet.
This model is decorated here in 1:148 scale in exactly the same characteristic green and cream of this popular south coast company. The truck is registered JNG 641 and also features the red and white trade plate 340 PX and ‘towing’ plate. The flatbed planking is painted brown, housing the crane and towing hook, all ready for action.
Road Name History: Southdown Motor Services Ltd operates bus and coach services in East and West Sussex and parts of Hampshire, in southern England. It was formed in 1915 and had various owners throughout its history, being purchased by the National Bus Company (NBC) in 1969. The company fleet name was lost when it was acquired by the Stagecoach Group in 1989 but continues as the legal name of Stagecoach in the South Downs, part of Stagecoach South.
Manufacturer Information:
Established in 1993, Oxford Diecast is a British Company that specializes in high-quality die-cast metal vehicles. Produced in various scales, the firm's models are marketed as collector items, gifts, and promotional products. Their largest production goes to OO scale (1:76) and in 2015 they introduced railway products under 'Oxford Rail' brand.
Their N-scale collection is using the 1:148 scale ratio as most British manufacturers.
