Company History: The DSR was born in 1922 and was the result of a three year running battle between the mayor of Detroit, Michigan and his political allies and the private sector Detroit United Railway, the streetcar line that served the city. The city owned DSR wrested control of and operated all of the former DUR trackage within the city limits as well as some trackage they built themselves. The resulting system had 363 miles of track and 1,457 streetcars. The Detroit United Railways continued with some interurban lines outside the city for another decade. The last streetcar line was converted to bus service in 1956.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
