Company History: In 1989, Witco built a 50 percent capacity expansion of its Ponca City, Okla., carbon black production facility. The 75 million pound production unit will increase the plant's capacity to 235 million pounds. This project, along with incrementally capacity increase, or debottlenecking projects completed or currently in progress at other plant locations, will increase Witco's total carbon black capacity to more than 435 million pounds a year. The new unit will be based on technology developed by Witco's Concarb division.

Continental Carbons was at least at one time operated as the ConCarb subsidiary of the Witco Corporation. Witco was merged through a succession of transactions into Chemtura. It is through its association with Witco that the WITX reporting marks became associated with Continental Carbons. The Continental Carbon Company was acquired by the China Synthetic Rubber Corp. in 1995.
