Baltimore Brewing

Company History: The Baltimore brewing Company opened in December of 1989, helping Baltimore regained its once proud tradition of hand-crafted Lager beers. The brewery is located on the site of the fifth brewery to be established in Baltimore and includes a restaurant which blends the best of German, American and regional Maryland cuisines.

Brewmaster Theo de Groen, the company's founder, is the latest in a long family line of Dutch brewers. In 1985 he was awarded a Brewing Engineering Degree from the prestigious Weihenstephan Institute in Bavaria Baltimore Brewing’s beers are marketed under his name and are brewed adhering to the Bavarian Purity Law (Reinheitsgebot) written in 1516. This law states that all beers must be brewed only from four ingredients: water, malt, hops, and yeast. This means no sugar, cereal adjuncts (such as corn or rice), preservatives or artificial coloring is permitted.
