Transportation Company - Amador Foothills - Railroad

Company History: Two years after the 1997 closure of the Amador Central Railroad the parent company Sierra Pacific Industries re-opened the line from Ione to Martell, California (12 miles) as the Amador Foothills Railroad. The new railroad was established likely for accounting reasons. The big customer was a particle board plant. There was an attempt to develop an industrial park along the AFRR. Streets were built and utility lines installed but there were no takers. By 2004, the condition of the track was badly deteriorated and there wasn't enough traffic to pay for the upkeep. The last Amador Foothills train ran that year. The line was leased to a group of guys who wanted to run their track speeders. In 2010, Sierra Pacific sold the railroad to a local historical society for $1.
