Prototype History: The 28' trailer provided LTL service for instances where a full size trailer would not be the most efficient. Splitting a haul into two creates more efficiency as one trailer can be spotted and then the second taken to a different destination without repacking. Many of the 28' trailers can be seen in TOFC service to this day.

Box vans are known as such for their rectilinear proportions. Their simple design makes them easy to manufacture and maintain.

Road Name History: The Schwinn Bicycle Company was founded by German-born mechanical engineer Ignaz Schwinn (1860–1945) in Chicago in 1895. It became the dominant manufacturer of American bicycles through most of the 20th century. After declaring bankruptcy in 1992, Schwinn has since been a sub-brand of Pacific Cycle, owned by the multi-national conglomerate, Dorel Industries.

Brand/Importer Information: Desiring to bring a creative and artistic approach to model railroad cars, Lowell Smith Signature Series was born in 1994. The first special run car commemorated the Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) of the Golden Spike - "Wedding of the Rails". Since 1994, Lowell Smith Signature Series has continued to produce over one hundred and thirty-five unique cars or train locomotives to date.

The product lines showcased in this website include creations inspired by Americana, such as the Great American Circus, American Fruit Packers and a special tribute to our Nation's National Parks. In 2008, Lowell was also asked to produce a line for the Walt Disney Company®, both at the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco as well as Disneyland® Main Street USA.
