Transportation Company - Central Manitoba - Railroad

Company History: The CEMR was established in 1999 by Canadian shortline holding company Cando Contracting to operate the former Canadian National Carmen Sub and Pine Falls Sub in – you guessed it – Central Manitoba. The Carmen Sub runs from Carmen Junction to Graysville 50 miles away (plus a 1 mile branch to Elm Creek.) The Pine Falls Sub runs from Beach Junction to Pine Falls, 68 miles away. However, only the first 41 miles of this line is currently in operation. CEMR locomotives wear the Cando standard black and gray paint with red and white pinstripes.
Successor/Parent History:
Cando Contracting Ltd. was founded in 1978 as a small rail line dismantling and salvage company in Manitoba, selling used railway materials such as relay and re-roll rail, OTM and railway ties.
Since 1978, the company has grown substantially and diversified its business, becoming an integrated solutions provider for customers in the rail sector and bulk handling industries.
The company has recently undergone a name change, from Cando Contracting Ltd. to Cando Rail Services Ltd., and launched a new logo in 2013. In addition to multiple divisions and departments, today Cando operates two short line railways in Ontario and has two wholly owned subsidiaries: the Central Manitoba Railway Inc., which was incorporated in 1999 when Cando acquired CN's former Pine Falls and Carman subdivisions in Manitoba, and Cando Contracting Inc., the U.S. branch of Cando which was purchased in 2004.
Brief History:
Canada is a North American country stretching from the U.S. in the south to the Arctic Circle in the north. Major cities include massive Toronto, west coast film centre Vancouver, French-speaking Montréal and Québec City, and capital city Ottawa. Canada's vast swaths of wilderness include lake-filled Banff National Park in the Rocky Mountains. It's also home to Niagara Falls, a famous group of massive waterfalls.
