Transportation Company - Walla Walla Valley - Railroad

Company History: The WWV opened in 1907 as the Walla Walla Valley Traction Company but changed the name in 1910. This electric interurban and freight line ran from Walla Walla, Washington south 14 miles to Milton-Freewater, Oregon. Northern Pacific took stock control of the company in 1921 but WWV continued to fly their own flag. Interurban passenger service was provided by a single car which ran back and forth on the hour. Passenger service ended in 1931 and in 1950, the trolley wire came down. A pair of Alco HH 660 switchers were transferred from parent NP to replace the electric freight motor. After control of the line passed from NP to Burlington Northern, a cascade green SW1 took over from the Alcos. The WWV struggled on until 1985 when it was abandoned.
