Transportation Company - Carolina Southern (1926-1961) - Railroad

Company History: The CS was established in 1926 to takeover the failed Wellington & Powellsville, a 3’ gauge line between Ahoskie and Windsor, North Carolina (a distance of 22 miles.) The new owners immediately standard gauged the line but it maintained its rollicking profile. A 2-6-0 and a 4-6-0 provided the power until 1951 when the CS was dieselized with a single GE 70-tonner. The line struggled on for another decade before being abandoned in 1961 with little fanfare.
Brief History:
The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
