Notes: The Lady-Date ref. 79160 came to market in the early 2000's bringing both classic and modern elements to the table via a stainless steel finish, a smooth bezel, a flat-link Oyster bracelet, and an updated caliber 2235 perpetual movement. The all-steel finish isn't just versatile; it offers a subtle style that is appropriate for everyday wear but can also be formal when it has to be. Avid Rolex collectors will also appreciate the feminine proportions that the Date offers in the form of a smaller 26mm Oyster case and a sleek bracelet. If you seek a versatile entry-level used Rolex, consider the ladies ref. 79160.
Mechanism: The 2235 is an update to their already accurate and reliable Cal. 2135. The calibre 2235 is a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Like all Rolex Perpetual movements, the 2235 is a certified Swiss chronometer, a designation reserved for high-precision watches that have successfully passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests. Its architecture, in common with all Oyster watch movements, makes it singularly reliable. This movement features date and date quickset functions.
This mechanism does have hacking capability.

Family Notes: The Rolex "Date" family of watches are smaller and less expensive than their cousins, the "Datejust" family. Date watches are enclosed in 34mm cases, whereas Datejust models are in 36mm cases. Furthermore, the Date models use 19mm width straps while the larger Datejust models use 20mm straps.
Being the less expensive line, new features reach the Date family only after the Datejust watches have already adapted them. For example, the Datejust family received mechanisms with Quickset date capability years before the Date models did.
