Specific Item Information: FVM 110912 – The Milw Rd Transfer Caboose. Another fitting Trainfest announcement on Nov 9, 2012. Scheme looks good with the full color logo and 6 digit road number.

Prototype History:
A transfer caboose looks more like a flat car with a shed bolted to the middle of it than it does a standard caboose. It is used in transfer service between rail yards or short switching runs, and as such, lacks sleeping, cooking or restroom facilities. The ends of a transfer caboose are left open, with safety railings surrounding the area between the crew compartment and the end of the car.

A recent variation on the transfer caboose is the "pushing" or "shoving" platform. It can be any railcar where a brakeman can safely ride for some distance to help the engineer with visibility at the other end of the train. Flatcars and covered hoppers have been used for this purpose, but often the pushing platform is a caboose that has had its windows covered and welded shut and permanently locked doors. CSX uses former Louisville & Nashville short bay window cabooses and former Conrail waycars as pushing platforms.

Prototype Description: The B&O M-53 wagontop was not B&O?s most popular boxcar, but it is arguably their signature piece of rolling stock. From 1937-1938, the B&O constructed 2,000 Wagontops classed as M-53, numbers 380000-381999 and 1000 M-53A units numbered 385000-385999. The underframes were built by Bethlehem and the car bodies were constructed in B&O?s own company shops beginning in 1937 through 1938. The class M-53A units were built in 1941 and were 400lbs. heavier and had minor rivet detail differences from the M-53.

Road Name History:
Precision Master's assets sold to Red Caboose in March of 1998. Fortunately, Red Caboose continued to release these models until they also sold their assets to Fox Valley Models. Again fortunately, we continue to see releases of these excellent quality models via Fox Valley with InterMountain trains helping with distribution.

Brand/Importer Information:
Fox Valley Models is a small supplier of model railroad and related products. FVM started by finding solutions to different challenges that model railroaders were faced with. Our first products resulted from a need to equip custom built passenger cars with tinted windows made of an ideal material; thin, flexible, easy to cut, simple to install, available in multiple colors and be affordable. We met those needs and even included a frosted version for the car's lavatory windows.

Other challenges inspired additional products including wooden grade crossings, trestles and different lineside structures. As our product line expands, input and requests from friends and customers help shape the product selection further.

Future products, under development, include more parts, structures, details and rolling stock. We strive to offer a good quality product at an affordable price.
