Company History: The National Harbours Board was established in 1936 under Canada’s Ministry of Transport to oversee development of the following Canadian ports: Halifax, Montreal, Prince Rupert, Saint John, St. John’s, Vancouver, Churchill, Hamilton, Quebec City, Thunder Bay, Saquenay, Sept-Iles, Toronto, Trois-Rivieres and Victoria. Several of these ports had terminal railways that became the National Harbours Board Railway.
NHB was replaced in 1983 by Canada Ports Corporation and control of the individual railway operations was transferred to new locally controlled organizations such as the Port Of Montreal Railway.
