Prototype Description:
A Digital Decoder is a small piece of electronics installed in model railroad items, to start with in locomotives, to which a unique ID or address is assigned, and that allows to control the said item from a centralized control station using its address.
Thus it becomes possible to control individually multiple locomotives running on the same power district, which is not possible on analog layouts.
Though several digital systems exist, the most predominant is the Digital Command Control or DCC that was invented in the 1980's by Lenz Elektronik GmbH and adopted in 1993 as a NMRA standard.

Road Name History:
InterMountain is a manufacturer of detailed HO, N, and Z, scale model trains. They are based in Longmont Colorado. They produce both regular production and special runs on commission. Their product lines encompass both rolling stock and locomotives. They are even brave enough to produce high quality steam locomotives! Their products originally came in kits, but most of their current (2018) releases come Ready-to-Run. They are kown for their early adoption of knuckle couplers and extensive use of separately applied details parts long before their competitors were willing to do the same. The also serve as the manufacturer behind Centralia Car Shops.
