Model Information: Designed, engineered, and tooled in the United States, these models have factory installed Micro-Trains Line stock number 1015 couplers, narrow-style, body mounted draft gear boxes, with shank wedges, striker casting and full nut and bolt detail, ExactRail's own Barber 70 Ton S-2 trucks, CNC machined 33" metal wheel-sets with steel axles, accurate lettering styles and logotypes, razor sharp printing, and true to life paint colors.

Like many of ExactRail's models, these are nicely made, basic rolling stock models. They have nice molded detail and printing so they look good. They also model a specific modern prototype and model it well. Instead of just stating '50 Foot Waffle-Side Boxcar', these models target very specifically the Pullman-Standard 5277 Waffle-Side prototype and hit the mark. The only thing lacking would be more body detail. The only separate detail piece is the brake wheel. Ladders, grab irons and placards are all in the molding. This does have the advantage, however, that these are NOT delicate models and they would likely cost more to make if they had more detail. You can't have everything...

In 1974, the Southern Railway took delivery of 70 ton, 5277 cubic foot capacity box cars from Pullman-Standard. Different from the majority of other cars of the IPD era, the Southern cars had a full set of "waffles"--stamped impressions into the car's side panels which were intended to accommodate lading equipment. Beginning with P-S lot 9725, Southern Railway would eventually roster nearly 5,000 of these box cars. Found anywhere, the Southern P-S 50' 'Waffle' Box Car is the epitome of a signature classic!

ExactRail recreates the P-S 50' 'Waffle' Box Car with our team who designs, engineers and tools in the United States! Available only in accurate paint schemes with exceptionally accurate lettering and logotypes, ExactRail's N-scale P-S 50' 'Waffle' is a highly authentic replica with a host of exclusive features. As with all new models, the P-S 50' 'Waffle' Box Car is available only from www.exactrail.com & www.trainlife.com.

Road Name History:
To be truthful the Family Lines System was never actually an operating railroad, it was merely a marketing tactic which brought together the allying lines of the Louisville & Nashville, Clinchfield, Seaboard Coast Line, and a number of other smaller road (such as the Georgia Railroad, Atlanta & West Point Railroad, and Western Railway of Alabama otherwise referred to as the West Point Route). With this came a new livery (not unlike the later Seaboard scheme) applied to all with sub-lettering stenciled under locomotive cabs identifying the specific company. This marketing scheme was also short-lived, lasting only from 1972 until 1982 when these railroads merged together formally to create the Seaboard System (itself operating for only a few years).

The three main components of the System were the L&N, Clinchfield, and SCL. The L&N (the first component) was a railroad synonymous with the southern states; it served major cities from New Orleans and Memphis to St. Louis, Atlanta, and later Chicago. The L&N is also one of the few classic fallen flags to never have had its original chartered name change at any point throughout its history, serving its home state and the southeast for over 120 years. As the L&N itself disappeared into the Seaboard System in 1982 just a few years later the Seaboard itself would disappear into CSX Transportation.
