Company History: The MDS was established around 2006 as a subsidiary of New York shortline Owego & Harford Railway to assume operations on a 55 mile former Mobile & Ohio line between Waynesboro and Meridian, Mississippi. MDS typically moves about 135 cars per week. Connections are with the Kansas City Southern in Meridian. Customers include Marshall Durbin Poultry, Hood Lumber, Georgia-Pacific, Atlas Roofing, Bazor Lumber, Scotch Plywood, Culbreth Timber and Southwood Door. In 2020, the entire Owego & Harford group of shortlines was acquired by RJ Corman. MDS never had their own paint scheme and didn’t even adopt Owego & Harford black. Instead, MDS reporting marks were added and the road numbers of the previous owner of each locomotive were used. RJ Corman red and silver is on the way, no doubt.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean.
