Transportation Company - Mississippi Tennessee - Railroad

Company History: The MTNR was launched by the Ironhorse Resources shortline group in 2003 to take over Mississippi Tennessee RailNet from the North American RailNet shortline group. The line ran from Middleton, Tennessee south to Houston, Mississippi. At one time, this had been part of a Gulf Mobile & Ohio mainline. It had since passed through the hands of Illinois Central Gulf, Gulf & Mississippi, MidSouth Rail, and Kansas City Southern before RailNet picked it up. Just a year after launch, MTNR applied to abandon everything south of New Albany. In 2008, another 16 miles was abandoned leaving a segment between New Albany and Faulkner and a disconnected 1.25 mile branch serving an industrial park in Middleton. In 2011, the New Albany to Faulkner segment was sold to a subsidiary of the Pioneer Railcorp family of shortlines and re-named Ripley & New Albany Railroad. The MTNR line in Middleton remains and is mostly used for car storage.
