Company History: The MNRR opened around 1916 by Southwestern Portland Cement to move limestone the 6 miles from Sidewinder Valley to Victorville, California. Just after the Second World War, the line was extended another seven miles to Bell and then another seven miles to Reserve Quarry in 1951. At least some steam power received MNRR lettering but by the 1960’s, diesel locomotives carried only road numbers and no lettering. Later, secondhand EMD power arrived on the property and was lettered SWPC for the parent company. Today, locomotives are lettered for the current owner, Cemex.
