Company History: NKCR was launched in 2005 when the OmniTRAX shortline group purchased the Nebraska Kansas Colorado RailNet from the North American RailNet shortline group. NKCR runs three separate groups of routes: Holdrege, Nebraska west to Sterling, Colorado with a branch to the Gentleman Power Plant north of Wallace, Nebraska (the largest power plant in the state.); McCook west to Imperial, Nebraska; Franklin, Nebraska west to St. Francis, Kansas with branches to Oxford Junction and Oberlin.

In total, they operate 559 miles of former Chicago Burlington & Quincy routes. Traffic includes coal, corn, fertilizer and wheat.
