History: In 1957, the first Japanese domestically mass-produced diesel locomotive design was planned. It was based from the DD11 and engine power was enhanced. So in March 1958, Japan's first mass-produced diesel locomotive DD13 No.1 was produced at the Kisha Seizo Co. (serial number 2790).
