Company History: The Chautauqua Traction Company opened in 1904 with an electric interurban line from Jamestown, New York northwest along the west bank of Chautauqua Lake to Westfield on Lake Erie. They fought for passengers with the Jamestown Westfield & Northwestern, another interurban line that ran parallel to the CT on the opposite bank of the lake. The CT was abandoned in 1926 while their arch-competitor lasted another 21 years.
