Prototype Information: Introduced on the United Kingdom's west coast line between London Euston and Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, and Glasgow (Scotland) in 2002, the Class 390 high speed tilting Pendolino passenger trains are operated by Virgin Trains.

Owned by Stagecoach and Virgin Rail Group, which was created by Virgin Group (a British multinational conglomerate that consists of over four-hundred worldwide companies) in order to bid for United Kingdom rail franchises during British Rail's privatization years, since March 9, 1997, Virgin Trains has provided a combined metropolitan population of over eighteen million people with long-distance passenger rail services between London, West Midlands, North West England, North Wales and Scotland.

With one nine-car set (unit number 390 033, "City of Glasgow" which was seriously damaged in a derailment near Grayrigg) written off on November 30, 2007, as of 2016, the Virgin Trains Pendolino fleet consists of twenty-one nine-car sets and thirty-five eleven car sets.

Pendolino Car Types:

A and K cars are driving motor cars.

B, D, F, G (which is only used with 11-car sets), and J coaches are intermediate motor cars.

C and H coaches are intermediate trailer cars with pantographs.

E and U (which is only used with 11-car sets) coaches are intermediate trailer cars.

Brand/Importer Information:
Rapido Trains Inc. is a high-end manufacturer of model trains and accessories in HO, OO and N (North American 1:160 and British 1:148) scales. The firm's mission is to recreate the entire rail travel experience, from fully-detailed interiors and under-frames on models to fully-wired telephone poles for model railroads.

The name RAPIDO was introduced by Canadian National in 1965 to headline the railway's high-speed intercity passenger services. Until the mid-1980s, RAPIDO stood for fast schedules, frequent trains, and superb service.

Today, Rapido Trains continues the RAPIDO concept with state-of-the-art models and attention to fine detail. This company is not related to the venerable (and now defunct) German manufacturer Arnold Rapido, nor the present-day Arnold (which is owned by the United Kingdom's Hornby), Canadian based Rapido Trains was founded in 2003.
