Locomotive, Electric, Siemens BR 1014/1114

History: The Siemens series 1014/1114 electric locomotives were produced for the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) by SGP-Graz (now Siemens). The 1114 is a little lighter (66 tons) and optimized for speed and passenger service. The heavier 1014 (74 tons) has more tractive power and was designed for freight service. These locomotives were produced between 1993 and 1994.

This design was specially made for dual-frequency service. The problem arose from the fact that some of Austria's neighboring countries used a different frequency for the current in their catenary lines. Before the introduction of the 1014/1114, it was necessary top swap out the locomotives when crossing from Austria into Hungary, the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. The two locomotives are share the same structural frame allowing for parts interchange. It is also possible to convert a 1014 into a 1114 and vice versa.

This series of locomotives was replaced by the newer 1116 locomotives produced by Siemens.
