Notes:
In 1954 Rolex collaborated the Pan-Am company to create the perfect watch to accompany their pilots as they flew around the globe. The result was the mighty GMT Master with its 24-hour bezel and GMT Hand that allowed the wearer to keep track of two time zones at once. In true Rolex fashion, the GMT Master was refined to perfect its features. As a result, the GMT Master II was introduced in 1983 with reference 16760. The sturdy 3-piece link Oyster bracelet, 40mm Oyster case, and signature red and black "coke" bezel add to its appealing design.
Mechanism:
Rolex 3085 is a calibre by Rolex. Automatic winding Rolex Caliber 3085 with 27 jewels and adjusted to 5 positions and temperature. This movement provides 24 hour time (second timezone) by means of the red hand which revolves around the dial once every 24 hours. The 12 hour hand can be moved in one hour increments independently of the red 24 hour hand, thereby allowing the wearer to track a second timezone. The local and 24 hour hands are normally left in synchronization with each other to let the wearer know if it is AM or PM (remember this watch was designed for cave explorers who may lose track of day or nighttime). The movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. Self-winding movement, bi-directional winding, 28,800 A/h, 27 jewels, GMT function (dual time zone) and date indication.
Used in previous editions of the models GMT-Master II and Explorer II Ref. 16550.
Description: Self-winding movement, bi-directional winding; Chronometer certificate (COSC); Breguet hairspring; Microstella precision adjustment with regulation screws; Kif shock protection.

Family Notes:
Although the Rolex GMT-Master was designed essentially for professional use, its combination of peerless functionality and rugged good looks has attracted a wider travelling public. As well as appreciating its ability to display different time zones, these travellers admire the robustness and versatile appearance that make the GMT-Master eminently suitable for globetrotting and, indeed, for any occasion.
Type:
This model comes equipped with a significantly thicker case, earning it the nickname the "Fat Lady" or "Sophia Loren" due to its perfect curves. This model also features extra large crown guards, which will appeal to some avid Rolex collectors.
