Name HMS Sjolejonet
Nationality Sweden (Details)
Period none
Type Submarine
Warship Class Sjolejonet (Details)
Class:

The first 4 Sjölejonet-class subs were laid down in 1935, the next four in 1940 and the final boat in 1941. The first boat (Sjölejonet) was commisioned in 1938 and the final boat (Sjöborren) was commisioned in 1942. An interesting aspect of this design was a fairly unique traversing deck mounting for two of the six torpedo tubes. Of the remaining four tubes, three were located in the bow and one in the stern. The ships also had 2x40mm Bofors AA cannon in disappearing mountings. All nine boats were reconstructed in the 1950's for Cold War service with the AA guns and deck-mounted tubes being removed. All nine were sold for scrap between 1961 and 1967.

Nationality: Sweden is a Scandinavian nation with thousands of coastal islands and inland lakes, along with vast boreal forests and glaciated mountains. Its principal cities, eastern capital Stockholm and southwestern Gothenburg and Malmö, are all coastal. Stockholm is built on 14 islands. It has more than 50 bridges, as well as the medieval old town, Gamla Stan, royal palaces and museums such as open-air Skansen.
