Body Style Information: This Outside Braced Box Car comes equipped with a track-powered flashing red LED light (also known as a Flashing Rear End Device or FRED). Just attach the car to the end of your HO train for a modern finishing touch. Operates on both DC and DCC layouts. It also features an operating door, metal wheels, and E-Z Mate® Mark II couplers.

Prototype Information: Starting in the 1970s, the 50-foot exterior post boxcar is a ubiquitous piece of rolling stock. The car is a 70-ton Association of American Railroads (AAR) plate B car built by FMC. These cars were in heavy use by the BN and the WP.

The GBW added fifty 50' boxcars (GBW 7000-7049) and an additional three hundred 50' boxcars (GBW 1600-16299) in December 1979 and January 1980. These cars were built by FMC and painted in the familiar bright yellow paint scheme with black lettering and a red-and-white GREEN BAY ROUTE herald.

Road/Company Information: The GRN first appeared in 1920 with the renaming of the Greenville & Knoxville Railroad which ran 20 miles between Greenville and River Falls, South Carolina. Around 1955, the River Falls end was cut back to Travellers Rest, South Carolina,10 miles from Greenville. In 1957, they joined the Pinsley group of shortlines. Traffic included cotton waste, chemicals, lumber, paper, peat moss, scrap and vermiculite. By the mid-90s, traffic had fallen off considerably, averaging less than 3 cars per day. Pinsley sold the GRN to the RailTex shortline group who placed it under the control of their Carolina Piedmont Railroad subsidiary. The GRN closed the following year and was officially abandoned in 2005.
