Specific Item Information: NOL 40' Standard height (8'6") Smooth-side containers . JTC # 405658 December 1968, Neptune Orient Lines was started as Singapore's national shipping line. In the 1970s containerization was introduced. In 1975, NOL entered the Asia-Europe trade as part of the ACE consortium with partners OOCL, K Line, COSCO and Franco-Belgian Services. In 1997, NOL acquired APL. Following the merger, the APL name was adopted as the public brand name. In 2016 NOL was acquired by CMA CGM.

Prototype History: The 40 foot container is the king of the container business. It is the most common standard container size used for international and domestic shipping. Most intermodal operations that handle overseas shipping are optimized for this container size. These containers are typically reinforced for loading, unloading and transportation by ship.

Dry containers are meant for non-refrigerated goods and hence are the most common type.

Smoothside containers, while less popular than their corrugated brethren, are still popular. They are frequently built with insulation in their walls.

Following the merger, APL name was adopted as the public brand name. The NOL name was retained for the holding company, which was listed on the Singapore stock exchange and was well known to its investors. The company focused on managing global supply chains in 2001 when APL Logistics was established as a separate business unit.
On 17 February 2015, APL Logistics was sold to Kintetsu World Express, Inc.
2016 Temasek tendered its NOL shares to CMA CGM
