Specific Item Information: These, and very similar, log spine cars were common in the Pacific North West from the 1920's to the early 1970's. The Southern Pacific's Class L-40-5 were constructed from 1937. Withdrawal started post 1945 but 400+ were still in service 1960 with a few cars still in service post 1970. The SP cars used low bunks that restrained the loaded logs. The Milwaukee Road cars in their 59000 series differ from the SP car by having tall sprung stakes, where the logs' own weight, pressing on the stakes kept the logs on the car. There was no banding around the logs on these cars. The Milw cars were in service until the late 1970's Similar cars were used on other short lines in the North Western states until the 1980's
Model Information: These cars are cast in metal, and therefore have a very low center of gravity and sufficient weight to track very well even when not loaded. The kits comprise of the five spines to which all the fittings are glued. CA is recommended for assembly (see how-to-build page) Kits contain 88 castings. Simple hand tools are required for assembly
Road Name History:
Although they may be molded in color, unpainted and unlettered, undecorated products are marketed to modelers who seek to custom decorate their models for private roads and/or road and/or company names that were not commercially produced by any of the major manufacturers.

Undecorated models are frequently also unassembled or only partially assembled and required modelers to be comfortable with glue, paint and sometimes solder in order to prepare their models for display. Materials for these models can vary but often include plastic, pewter and resin. Models may or may not come with decals or other decorations such as plastic signage, railings and ladders to enhance the appearance of the final product.

Brand/Importer Information: N Scale Kits manufacture and sell the widely admired Alan Curtis model range [AC Models and Andersley Models]. Their focus is the intermodal and flatcar kits originally produced by Alan Curtis and AC Models. All cars are manufactured in lead free pewter.

N Scale Kits is located at Minster Chambers, Church Street, Southwell Nottinghamshire, England NG25 0HD.
