Prototype History: These open hoppers were built between 1982 and 1984 by EPT. They were made from stainless steel. These hoppers were built specifically to handle the volume of coal that spiked in the 1970s in New South Wales. Mines in the region such as Baal Bone and Charbon Clarence in the Hunter Valley were incredibly productive and a new high volume railcar was called for. The cars were nicknamed ‘Bomb Bay’ hoppers, as they were the first type of hopper fitted with 3 large longitudinal bottom discharge doors.

Their arrival coincided with the expansion of the export coal terminals at Pt Waratah and Pt Kembla Inner Harbour near the city of Newcastle, north of Sydney.
Road Name History:
FreightCorp, formally Freight Rail, was a railway operator owned by the Government of New South Wales. It was responsible for intrastate and some interstate railway cargo handling from its foundation in January 1989 until it was privatised in August 2002.From Wikipedia
