Altoona & Logan Valley Electric

Company History: The A&LVE was born in 1892 and immediately took control of the City Passenger Railway of Altoona. The line served passengers in the Altoona, Pennsylvania area. In 1903, the company was bought by American Railways (an early transit holding company) and merged with 2 other Altoona area trolley lines under the Altoona & Logan Valley Electric name. For nearly its whole history, locals called this line the “Logan Valley.” The system peaked in the early 1920s with 55 miles of line. Rail service ended in the summer of 1954, with buses taking over the remaining routes.
