Company History:
This industrial line was built in 1912 and consists of two segments. The first is isolated from the North American railroad network. It is used to move limestone between Port Dolomite and the company’s facility on the north side of Cedarville on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. This line has been run with a pair of former Union Pacific SW10 switchers since 1996. The other segment is in the Calcite-Rogers City area of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. At one time, this was the largest limestone quarrying operation in the world. For most of its history, it was a subsidiary of U.S. Steel but since 2008 has been a subsidiary of Carmeuse Lime.
