Company History:
The PSTCo. was established in 1936 to take over the Philadelphia & West Chester Traction Company and the lines they leased. These routes which were under trolley wire, served Philly’s western suburbs. In 1953, they took over the Philadelphia & Western (primarily a 3rd rail line.) After the closing of the Chicago North Shore & Milwaukee in 1964, PSTCo. picked up their articulated Electro-Liner sets and equipped them with pick up shoes for 3rd rail. Operations of the PSTCo. were taken over by Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) in 1970.
