SMS Rail Lines

Company History: SMS launched in 1994 and specializes in switching industrial parks in the Northeast. Today they operate in the following parks: Penn Warner Industrial Park in Morrisville, Pennsylvania, Pureland Industrial Complex in Logan Township, New Jersey, Sunoco Logistics Eagle Point Terminal in Westville, New Jersey, Northeast Industrial Park in Guilderland, New York. This one is technically operated by a subsidiary called SMS Rail Lines of New York and uses SNY reporting marks.

SMS is famous for operating Baldwin locomotives. A recent roster includes: two VO660’s, a DS44-660, three DS44-1000’s (one of which is painted in PRR colors,) a DS44-750, eight S12’s (half of which are stored,) a VO1000, and three AS616’s (two of which are stored.) These are joined by an SW9, an SW14, four B23-7’s, a GP38-3 (since retired) and a leased SW1200RS. Some of the Baldwins are lettered for “Penn Jersey Lines.”
