Transportation Company - Alcoa Terminal - Railroad

Company History: The ATRR served the large aluminum mill of the Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa) in Alcoa, Tennessee just south of Knoxville. The town was originally called North Maryville but was renamed Alcoa in 1919. While it is certain that the facility was served by rail from the outset, it’s unclear exactly when the railroad began operating as “Alcoa Terminal Railroad.” The smelter closed in 2009, leaving the mill producing sheet aluminum for packaging and automobile production. This has reduced rail traffic for the ATRR as well but they continue to interchange with Norfolk Southern on a regular basis. In 2016, Alcoa divided their business and this railroad was renamed Arconic Terminal Railroad.
Brief History:
The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
