Specific Item Information: The 1:148 scale Bedford CA, presented in the cream and red colour scheme of the 'real thing' with a white masked roof, solid red skirt and red graphics. Registered 57 TMA, the graphics boast the award winning home-made ice cream, produced in Appledore. A tooling modification to the Oxford Bedford CA tooling sees the addition of two ice cream cones positioned at the front of the roof above the windscreen, while the rear warns following motorists to stop and watch for children.

The North Devon family firm has been making ice cream since1936, founded by David Hocking with one van - a 1928 Morris Cowley- which he converted into an ice cream van. His son David joined the business after the War, along with other family members along the way who have expanded both the business and the fleet across the years. Today, the Hocking family, under the management of grandsons Geoff and Neil and great grandson Andrew, still operate out of Appledore near Bideford and sell their famous and unique ice creams across the County from their fourteen company vans. The recipe for their vanilla ice cream has been handed down through the generations and has won numerous National Ice Cream Competitions, so if you are in Devon on holiday, make a bee-line for Hockings for the ultimate ice cream experience!
Model Information: Factory painted and assembled, the Oxford Diecast line of metal vehicle models are 1:148 (British) N-Scale. This models the Bedford CA in its Ice Cream van version.
Road Name History:
It was Whitsun 1936 that Dave Hocking sold his buses to Southern National and started making ice cream. From the beginning he was determined to make a high quality West Country ice cream using butter and clotted cream. He bought an electric ice cream maker, many of his competitors were still using a hand machine frozen by ice and salt, and sought the advice from The Ice Cream Alliance on how to make a good quality product.

It quickly gained a good local reputation, and after the war he was joined by his two sons, David and Ernest, and the business began to grow. They would enter the ice cream competitions and won their first Diploma of merit in 1953. Since then another 76 have been added, the highest being a Bronze medal in 2005 and 2011.
Manufacturer Information:
Established in 1993, Oxford Diecast is a British Company that specializes in high-quality die-cast metal vehicles. Produced in various scales, the firm's models are marketed as collector items, gifts, and promotional products. Their largest production goes to OO scale (1:76) and in 2015 they introduced railway products under 'Oxford Rail' brand.
Their N-scale collection is using the 1:148 scale ratio as most British manufacturers.
