Friendship Train

Company History: The 1947 Friendship Train collected food donated by Americans in cities all across the U.S. to be shipped to the people of France and Italy who desperately needed help following the end of World War II. Without involvement of the government, the food was loaded, transported by rail and truck and shipped overseas for free, due to the generosity of the American people and their businesses. The box cars traveled through eleven states from Los Angeles to New York City before reaching its final European destination.

Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
