Company History: Revere Sugar Refinery operated in Boston since at least 1867. In 1892, Revere Sugar was one of only five sugar refineries in the United States not controlled by American Sugar Refining Company. In the early 1900s, the United Fruit Company acquired Revere Sugar as an outlet for the products from the company's 89,000 acres of sugar cane plantations in Cuba. In 1919, a new refinery was built in Boston and a second refinery was acquired in Brooklyn. That plant was used for sugar processing from circa 1910 until the mid 1980s, first by American Molasses Co., and then by Revere Sugar. A third refinery was opened in Chicago.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
