Company History: The SLC opened in 1913 as a 13 mile sugar beet hauler between Monte Vista and Center, Colorado. Local conditions left farmers to abandon sugar beets and they were replaced with potatoes, barley, peas and wheat. SLC acquired their own fleet of reefers to haul this traffic. They became a subsidiary of the Pea Vine Corporation in 1969 but were later sold to Rail World. An SW8 handles most of the switching with a GE 70-tonner in reserve.
