Company History: BS&WCo was established in 1911 by John Stewart and Patrick Welch (railroad builders) and lumber magnate Julius Bloedel. They founded the company to supply lumber for the construction of the Grand Trunk Railway between Edmonton, Alberta and Prince Rupert, British Columbia. The following year, they secured a contract to supply lumber for the Pacific Great Eastern’s line from Vancouver to Prince George, British Columbia. Logging railroad operations began at Myrtle Point, B.C. Later operations opened in Alberni, Menzies Bay, Comox, Union Bay, Great Circle Lake and Franklin River, all on Vancouver Island. BS&W was the first logger in British Columbia to plant pine seedlings in an area that had been logged over. This was done in 1938. In 1951 Bloedel Stewart & Welch merged with H.R. MacMillan Export to form MacMillan Bloedel Limited.
Brief History: Canada is a North American country stretching from the U.S. in the south to the Arctic Circle in the north. Major cities include massive Toronto, west coast film centre Vancouver, French-speaking Montréal and Québec City, and capital city Ottawa. Canada's vast swaths of wilderness include lake-filled Banff National Park in the Rocky Mountains. It's also home to Niagara Falls, a famous group of massive waterfalls.
