Company History:
The HSW was chartered in 1913 to build a 4 mile line in the Helena, Arkansas area to connect a sawmill of its parent company Chicago Mill & Lumber Company to connections with Missouri Pacific and Missouri & Northern Arkansas. In the diesel era, the line was powered with a single GE 44-tonner. Traffic, as you would expect, consisted of forest products. Chicago Mill & Lumber sold the railroad to American Box in 1984. They held it for just two years before selling it to P.E. Barnes & Sons (who make hardwood flooring and trim.) At that point, the HSW ceased to be a common carrier (it continued operating exclusively for the mill.)
Brief History:
The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
