Company History: The history of Aliança Navegação e Logística is intertwined with the history of Brazilian commercial shipping. Carl Fischer, a German, founded Aliança in 1950. The company began its operations with just one ship, which transported fruit between Brazil and Argentina.
In 1998, Aliança was acquired by the Oetker Group, owner of the Hamburg Süd Shipping line and expanded its activities, including new itineraries connecting the Gulf of Mexico, Europe, Central America, the Caribbean, Asia and Brazil. In 1999, the company was a pioneer in winning back the transport of containerized cargo between Brazilian ports.

Successor/Parent History: In 1871, Hamburg Südamerikanische Dampfschifffahrts-Gesellschaft is founded as a joint-stock company by representatives of eleven Hamburg merchant houses. Three steamers of barely 4,000 GRT sail to Brazil in a monthly service.
In 1955, the Dr. August Oetker company takes over the business of Hamburg Süd completely.
In December, 2016 after more than 80 years, Dr. August Oetker KG announces plans to divest its shipping business and all related activities. Acquisition negotiations are conducted with the Danish shipping line Maersk. Since December 1, 2017, Hamburg Süd belongs to A.P. Moller - Maersk. At the same time, Hamburg Süd will remain a commercially independent company with its own brand values. The Hamburg Süd brand will continue to represent quality, reliability, and flexibility, in addition to providing a specific service offering with outstanding local expertise and personal contacts in over 250 offices worldwide.

Brief History: Brazil, a vast South American country, stretches from the Amazon Basin in the north to vineyards and massive Iguaçu Falls in the south. Rio de Janeiro, symbolized by its 38m Christ the Redeemer statue atop Mount Corcovado, is famed for its busy Copacabana and Ipanema beaches as well as its enormous, raucous Carnaval festival, featuring parade floats, flamboyant costumes, and samba music and dance.
