Company History:
Capital City Products had been founded in 1883 primarily as a margarine manufacturer however the business quickly grew into specialty fat and oil production. It was founded by Edmund P. Kelly and Henry C. Pirrung in 1883 to manufacturer a butter substitute known as butterine, or margarine. Production was expanded to include vegetable shortenings, mayonnaise and cooking oils. They sold Pie Crust Mixture and vegetable shortening under the KingTaste brand. Originally located in Cleveland, at some point they relocated to Columbus.
