Notes: The Ludwig II Limited Edition 40 is crafted from 18-karat champagne-colored gold. The pen’s cap is white lacquer, embellished with a guilloche design and a hand-engraved gold inlay of a lion motif, which is the symbol of Bavaria. Quite amazingly, the solid gold barrel features an inlay of a miniature feather-work (“plumasserie”) design visible through a sapphire glass. The crown of the pen is set with a Montblanc diamond, and the cone is set off by a string of rubies adjacent to the engraving of the king’s initials. So, too, two rubies serve as the swan’s eyes on the pen’s clip.
