Company History: The EVWR began operations in 2006 as a sister railroad to the Paducah & Louisville taking over operation of CSX’s line from Evansville, Indiana to end of track at Okawville, Illinois. This was originally the Louisville & Nashville mainline to St. Louis that had been downgraded by CSX in favor of the B&O mainline to St. Louis. EVWR has since built a branch to a coal mine and a 2 mile connection to the NS near Mount Vernon, Illinois. Many states have a city of “Mount Vernon” and the EVWR serves two of them - Indiana and Illinois. Total mileage is now about 140. Traffic is dominated by coal moving from mines to river docks and grain collected at several large elevators. Traffic on the eastern half of the EVWR is much heavier than on the western half. More than 1,100 cars are moved in a typical week.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
