Company History:
The GTR was born in 1981 when the Port of Rosedale (in Mississippi) bought from Illinois Central Gulf the route between the port and a connection with the Columbus & Greenville in Greenville, Mississippi 30 miles away. The line was switched with an Alco S-1 and an S-2, both of which were former NASA locomotives (originally U.S. Army.) Operations ceased in 2001 but the track and locomotives remain in place.
Brief History:
The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
