Company History:
The Albany Southern was formed in 1909 to takeover the line of the failed Albany & Hudson Railroad and related holdings. The 37 mile line provided interurban passenger and freight service between Albany and Hudson, New York using a combination of 3rd rail power with trolley wire for street trackage. By 1924, traffic was falling off and the company was conveyed to Eastern New York Utilities Corporation who was more interested in AS’s hydro-electric generating capacity than their railroad. The last train ran five years later.
Brief History:
The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
