Company History: The AR&T was born in 1902 after the newly built Allentown & Kutztown finished their line between their namesake cities in Pennsylvania. They then leased a line from Kutztown to Reading and changed their name to Allentown & Reading Traction Company. The A&K line was standard gauge but the line to Reading was broad gauge (probably 5’ 2 ½” gauge also known as Pennsylvania Trolley Gauge.) Passengers travelling the length of the line had to change cars at Kutztown. In 1929, the standard gauge line was cut back on the Kutztown end to the Allentown suburb of East Texas. The following year, the broad gauge line was abandoned entirely followed, four years later by the remaining standard gauge line.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
