Company History: The C&CT was established as a subsidiary of the Northern Pacific Railway and in 1887 they began consolidating various terminal railroads in the Chicago area from a connection with the B&O in Hammond, Indiana to the connection with the Santa Fe at McCook, Illinois. Northern Pacific didn’t get close to Chicago on their own but their favored connection at the time, Wisconsin Central, did. The Panic of 1893 broke the corporate ties of these companies and in 1897 the Chicago & Calumet Terminal Railway was merged into the Chicago Terminal Transfer Railroad. This route later became part of the Baltimore & Ohio Chicago Terminal Railroad.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
