Company History:
The C&CT was established as a subsidiary of the Northern Pacific Railway and in 1887 they began consolidating various terminal railroads in the Chicago area from a connection with the B&O in Hammond, Indiana to the connection with the Santa Fe at McCook, Illinois. Northern Pacific didn’t get close to Chicago on their own but their favored connection at the time, Wisconsin Central, did. The Panic of 1893 broke the corporate ties of these companies and in 1897 the Chicago & Calumet Terminal Railway was merged into the Chicago Terminal Transfer Railroad. This route later became part of the Baltimore & Ohio Chicago Terminal Railroad.
