Company History: SCTUSUV was established in 1932 when the Mexican government bought the Compania de Luz Fuerza y Traccion de Veracruz from the U.S. based Electric Bond & Share. This was the streetcar line that blanketed the port city of Veracruz, Mexico. The railway was named Cooperativea de Tranviarios y Similares del Puerto de Veracruz until 1939 when it received the SCTUSUV name. That same year, they acquired the Ferrocarril del Cementerio Particular Veracruzano which was a streetcar line that connected the city to a private cemetery. Like its predecessor, SCTUSUV purchased used streetcars from America and Canada including a number of PCC cars. The last new route was built in 1965 and the abandonments began just two years later. The last of the streetcar lines was closed in 1981. Several of the cars that had started life in America and moved south of the border were sold to traction museums back in America.
Brief History: Mexico is a country between the U.S. and Central America that's known for its Pacific and Gulf of Mexico beaches and its diverse landscape of mountains, deserts and jungles. Ancient ruins such as Teotihuacán and the Mayan city of Chichén Itzá are scattered throughout the country, as are Spanish colonial-era towns. In capital Mexico City, upscale shops, renowned museums and gourmet restaurants cater to modern life.
