Company History: The New York and Greenwood Lake Railway owned a line between Croxton, Jersey City, New Jersey and Greenwood Lake, New York. Service on the line was provided by the Erie Railroad.
The Montclair Railway was reorganized in 1878 as the New York and Greenwood Lake Railway (NYGL), under the control of Erie.
In 1943, the Erie Railroad directly acquired the New York and Greenwood Lake Railway.
In 1996, Jim Wilson revived the name and reporting mark NYGL for the shortline railroad based in Passaic, New Jersey. This road is unrelated, in a business sense, to the road which operated from 1878-1943.
